Inmarsat to add connectivity to IMDEX’s drilling intelligence solution
Satellite communications company Inmarsat has partnered with mining equipment, technology and services (METS) provider IMDEX to enhance its drilling intelligence solutions with satellite connectivity.
The addition of Inmarsat’s L-band satellite connectivity to IMDEX’s cloud-based software solution IMDEXHUB-IQ will eliminate the need for mining and drilling companies to procure their own communications and enable them to analyse and instantly upload field data in real-time from their remote field sites to be sent to headquarters.
IMDEX’s cloud-based hub aggregates and transmits field data from subsurface instrumentation and mobile units.
IMDEX Product Development general manager Michelle Carey said: “For mining and exploration operations to be successful, accurate subsurface data needs to be quickly collected and analysed to provide teams on the ground with intelligence to maximise the value of their decisions.
“This collaboration will allow our IMDEXHUB-IQ solution to connect to the cloud via Inmarsat’s highly secure and reliable network, meaning that the data obtained can be uploaded for analysis in real-time, even in areas with no terrestrial coverage.
The company will initially offer the solution to mining companies across Australia and New Zealand, before distributing the service internationally.
Inmarsat Mining Innovation director Joe Carr said: “By building our global mobile satellite connectivity into the solution as standard, end-users do not have to spend time and considerable effort to reduce the complexity of procuring their own network providers on a project by project basis.”
According to IMDEX, the advanced analytics in the drilling intelligence solution inform companies as to whether or not they ought to proceed with proposed projects.
Furthermore, IMDEXHUB-IQ can be used for applications across the mining cycle to provide data work flows. These applications cover daily reporting requirements, including shift reports, pre-starts, safety reports, site inspections, to geochemical analysis, rig positioning and downhole survey information.
